Frequently Asked Questions
When will the eclipse start?
Observing a solar eclipse is a memorable experience, but it’s important to do so safely to protect your eyes and health. Here are some essential safety tips: Eye Safety: Use special-purpose solar filters, such as “eclipse glasses” or handheld solar viewers, that meet the ISO 12312-2 international standard for direct viewing of the sun. Regular sunglasses, no matter how dark, are not safe for looking at the sun. Proper Use of Eclipse Glasses: Always wear your eclipse glasses while watching the sun before and after totality. You can remove them only during totality, when the sun is completely covered by the moon, to safely view the eclipse without glasses. Put the glasses back on as soon as the sun starts to reappear. Indirect Viewing Methods: If you don’t have eclipse glasses, consider using a pinhole projector. This DIY method projects an image of the sun onto a surface, allowing you to view the eclipse indirectly. Sun Exposure Precautions: Since you may be outside for a long time to observe the eclipse, apply sunscreen and wear protective clothing, such as hats, to guard against prolonged sun exposure. Following these guidelines will help ensure you enjoy the eclipse safely.
